Visualizing and Depicting 270
Project Description
In this class, I was asked to create an illustrated poster that presents information, facts, and data about a current topic that has contemporary relevance to me or to our society. The poster would then be presented to an adult audience within the context of a report/small poster that is available either in printed form or online as a means to educate my audience about the topic of interest. As a full-time student and part-time worker, I decided to choose the topic of minimum wage, its effects, and data about it from around the US.
Target Audience
Workers over the age of 18.
Guiding Questions
- Can the pieces of information and facts we choose to present sway our audience to a specific conclusion?
- Does giving more importance to certain facts about our topic create a bias? How can we look at our topic from multiple points of view?
- Is there an inherent bias to our topic and the information we might find – such as topics that impact a certain group of people, like minorities or women, more often.
- How can looking at multiple sources of information give us a more in-depth and wider view of our topic?
- How neutral can you keep your presentation of the facts, keeping in mind any bias that might be connected to the topic or information?
